How to Store

Refrigerator: Store the leftover hummus in a tightly covered bowl or in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Freezer: Store this homemade hummus recipe in the freezer in a small air-tight container, or these for up to three months. Be sure to leave a bit of space at the top since hummus expands when it freezes.

To thaw: Place in the fridge for a few hours to thaw before serving.

Tips

One of the joys of making hummus at home is the freedom to customize it. Here are some ideas to inspire your creativity:

  • For a creamier texture: save 1/4 cup of the chickpea liquid, called aquafaba, and use in place of the water.

  • Try different spice blends: Swap the Sweet Dandelion Indian Spice Blend for any of our other flavorful blends, like our Greek Seasoning.

  • Incorporate fresh herbs: Blend in cilantro, basil, or mint for a fresh twist.

  • Use roasted garlic: For a sweeter, milder garlic flavor.

  • Mix in roasted vegetables: Roasted red peppers or beets add color and sweetness.

  • Use Dry Beans: the recipe calls for one can of chickpeas, but you can start with dried Garbanzo beans. 1.5 cups of cooked beans equals one 15 ounce can. (approx. 1/2 cup of dry beans)

    • Simple directions to cook the dry beans: soak about 1/2 cup dry garbanzo beans with a teaspoon of baking soda in water overnight. When preparing to boil the chickpeas, drain the beans and add them to a large pot of water with another teaspoon of baking soda (which softens the skins and gives us a creamier dish). Bring the water to a boil and then reduce to a simmer. Cook for 45-60 minutes, until the beans are tender. Reserve ¼ cup of the cooking liquid, then drain the beans and make hummus starting at Step 1
